Smile With Confidence
Teeth whitening is a minimally invasive and safe way to improve the appearance of your teeth. Whether it be for a special occasion, or just to improve you confidence in smiling, talk to out dentists to explore the easy and quick ways we can whiten your teeth.
What is Teeth Whitening?
Teeth whitening is a procedure whereby the teeth are whitened chemically by the use of a whitening agent such as carbimide or hydrogen peroxide. It can be done in a single visit in the clinic using the assistance of a laser, or we can make you some trays to take home to whiten your teeth over a period of 2 weeks.
What will it do for me?
Teeth whitening is a cosmetic procedure. It works because the free radicals in the whitening agent bond to the pigments of the enamel and break them into their colourless parts. It does not damage nor remove any tooth structure.
Whitening will improve the shade and lustre of the natural teeth. It will not whiten fillings or crowns.
Whitening can be done as part of a cosmetic rehabilitation or just by itself.
How long will it take?
The In-Office whitening (Zoom Laser) appointment takes a single 75 minute visit.
The take home trays and bleach will require daily use for 30 minutes-1hr for 2 weeks.
Does it hurt?
The whitening procedure can cause temporary sensitivity. This might be during the procedure, and can also last for a couple of hours afterwards.
We recommend some relief in the form of a fluoride or calcium phosphate gel such as tooth mousse to assist in making you more comfortable.
Is it safe?
Absolutely. Teeth whitening has been used in dentistry for over 20 years and clinical studies have shown no detriment to the health or strength of the teeth.
